Thank you for visiting I’m a BU Honor Student! My name is Kalee Sorey, and I am a 21 year old marketing major at Belmont University. When I received my tuition bill of $12,000 this August, I felt defeated. For the past 2 1/2 years, I have spent my life over marketing books, buried in projects, and actively participating in classroom discussions. It is safe to say my studies have taken over my life, bank account, and even credit score.

I maintain a 3.91 GPA while being involved on campus and the community. I am a leader at the university through Towering Traditions, Belmont’s orientation program, and a highly exclusive alumni program called Belmont Ambassadors. I also work about 15-20 hours a week in my hometown doing marketing work and am a founding member in Belmont’s chapter of  The American Marketing Association.

I am a semester ahead of where I should be for my age because I graduated high school early with highest honors. Consequently, I will graduate in December 2010. Acceptance into the Accelerated Master of Business Administration (Accelerated MBA) Program offered at Belmont is my next goal. In today’s economy, it is important to offer both creativity and expertise to employers. While my Bachelor’s degree from Belmont, as well as my work experience, will provide me with experience, I hope to continue onto higher education.

This knowledge I hope will allow me to work for a company that I have known and admired as a young adult, consumer, and marketing student. This deep aspiration reminds me that living at home, taking public transportation, and working while taking 18 hours a semester is worth it. However, the debt I have taken on is very frightening. I will owe over $48,600 just for my Bachelor Degree! I have chosen a field where jobs are competitive and often have a low salary for entry level employees. I am also putting a burden on my parents by living at home. It is definitely a balance I have yet to work out. In attempt to continue my dream without filing bankruptcy or depending on my parents, I have decided to create a plan to sell off my childhood, every strong memory and memento, in order to establish myself as an adult.

Please invest in my transformation. I’ll share everything I have ever known to become something so much more....
